AI Engine is a powerful tool that enables you to create AI-powered forms on your WordPress website. Please note that while the chatbot feature is available for free, creating prompt forms requires the Pro version of AI Engine, which is currently priced at $49/year.

Here’s a guide to help you get started:

  1. Install AI Engine Plugin (This is ONLY for the FREE version if will not work for forms):
    • Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
    • Go to the “Plugins” section and click on “Add New.”
    • Search for “AI Engine by Jordy Meow” and click “Install Now.”
    • Activate the plugin once it’s installed.

2. Upgrade to the Pro Version:

To upgrade to the pro version you will need to visit, https://meowapps.com/ai-engine/.

  • You will then need to Upload the zip file that you will receive to your plugins.

3. Configure Plugin Settings:

  • Once you’ve upgraded to the Pro version, navigate to the AI Engine plugin settings.
  • Review the available options and adjust them according to your preferences.
  • Make sure to enter your OpenAI API key, which is required for AI Engine to function properly.

4. Set Up AI Form Container:

  • To create AI-powered forms, you need to set up an AI Form Container.
  • In the post editor, add a new block and search for “AI Form Container.”
  • Insert the AI Form Container block into your post or page.

You will need to pick the theme for the form. There are only 2 choices, ChatGPT or none. There is a problem currently with the ChatGPT theme. It ends up printing black letters on a black background for the output. We’ll take care of this in another step.

5. Configure AI Form Fields:

  • Within the AI Form Container, you can add AI Form Field blocks to define the input fields for your form.
  • Specify the field type (e.g., text input, dropdown, checkbox) and provide a label for each field.
  • Customize the field settings according to your specific form requirements.

6. Customize AI Form Submit:

  • Add an AI Form Submit block to your AI Form Container.
  • Configure the prompt, which represents the query to the AI model when the form is submitted.
  • Remember to use { } around the input variable. In our example, this is {WORD_TO_DEFINE}.
  • Specify the output element, which is where the AI’s response will be displayed. (We’ll be creating the output variable in the next step, this is just a reminder that we need to include this).

You can also define which version of GPT you would like to use and the maximum output length of the response.

Tokens represent words or parts of words, 4096 tokens is about 2,700 words. You can read about tokens and how they work in my article about them here.

7. Add a paragraph to the form.

  • This will serve as our output. We’ll configure the background to be white so that the text shows up. You cannot use the AI output with the ChatGPT theme at this time it does not work properly.

Once you have added the paragraph, we need to set the background to white to take care of the ChatGPT theme issue. (Otherwise, it will print black on black).

Then we’ll need to name the paragraph and put this name back into the submit block.

Now we’ll add this name with a # in front of it to the submit block.

Be sure to put  # in front of the paragraph name in the submit block otherwise Submit will not find the paragraph.

You need to use unique names for variables and paragraphs if you have more than one form on a page

8. Test and Refine:

  • Preview your form on your website and test its functionality.
  • Fill out the form fields and submit it to see the AI’s response based on the configured prompt.
  • Adjust the AI model’s behavior by refining the prompt and optimizing the embeddings (if applicable).
  • Iterate and test the form until you achieve the desired conversational experience.

In addition to prompt forms AI Engine also allows you to create chatbots. These chatbots can be trained on your own data, although we will not cover that in this article. You only need the free version of the AI engine to create standard chatbots.

1. Getting Started with AI Engine To begin, make sure you have the AI Engine plugin installed on your WordPress website. AI Engine is available as a plugin for WordPress, and it can be easily installed and activated. You can find instructions to do that here.

2. Designing Custom Chatbots You will need to fid the plugin on the backend of your website and click on the chatbots tab.

3. Implementing A Chatabot You will notice that there are a number of variables that you can set. A couple of the most important ones are the max number of tokens and the input max length. The max number of tokens will control how much text maximum will be created by GPT. The default setting is 1,024 which is about 450 words. 

  • Notice that there is a checkbox for casually fine-tuned if you wish to fine-tune your chatbot you will be using this. We will not be covering this in this lesson.
  • The temperature determines how creative that the chatbot will be. Chatbots tend to become unpredictable if this number gets too high. You can select between 0 and 1 for this number.

In the main settings for the chatbot you can give it a context. You may choose to use a personality for instance a lawyer or a doctor. This can end up giving you better responses for a particular situation. You can find more information about using the AI personality technique here.

There are several other variables that you can set but these are the most important ones. Once you finish configuring your chatbot you are ready to copy the short code.

So the shortcode for this chatbot is,

You can implement this by using the standard editor in WordPress.

Once you click on the shortcode block all you need to do is paste in the shortcode that you got on the back end of your website.

Which will create a chatbot like this one.

AI Engine allows you to provide instructions to the AI model through the context parameter. This feature injects the textual and cleaned content of the current page into the context, making the chatbot aware of the information on the page. 6. Data Security and Privacy AI Engine takes data security and privacy seriously. It ensures that user data entered into the forms is protected. Data is sent to OpenAI but is not stored or used in any way. Only the IP address of the user is stored in AI engines’ statistics.

Chris Chenault trained as a physicist at NMSU and did his doctoral work in biophysics at Emory. After studying medicine but deciding not to pursue an MD at Emory medical school Chris started a successful online business. In the past 10 years Chris's interests and studies have been focused on AI as applied to search engines, and LLM models. He has spent more than a thousand hours studying ChatGPT, GPT 3.5, and GPT4.
